Beast Master 5E. The Beast Master suffers from a lot of balance choices concerning Ranger's Companion. If it weren't for Ranger's Companion being the way it was, it'd be a completely valid archetype. You're digging for diamonds in the rough, the animal has a pitifully small health pool, and your action economy is garbage.

Sailsnakes are a (non Aquatic) animal companion you seem to have missed. Monster Manual 4 page 125. Notably they can only be taken at level 4 or higher but are missing the normal text for reduced effective animal companion level. With flyby attack and a breath weapon they could be quite interesting.
